B-1 Business Visa

The B-1 visa is a nonimmigrant visa that may be issued to individuals who seek temporary entry into the United States for business purposes. With planning and proper execution, the B-1 visa can be skillfully used by business visitors to serve either their short or long term purposes. Normally accepted business activities include engaging in commercial transactions, negotiating contracts, litigating, participating in conferences and seminars, participating in voluntary service programs etc.

The B-1 visa is normally granted for 6 months. However, extensions of more than six months can be requested once an applicant is in the United States. To determine how long to grant an applicant’s stay, the U.S. consular officer will look to the nature of the business he/she wants to conduct in the United States. The applicant must show that they have the intent to return home upon expiration of their visa.
